    What does the IP54 rating mean?

    The IP rating – or Ingress Protection rating – indicates how well protected an electrical enclosure is against dust and moisture. The first digit refers to dust and the second to water. So, an IP54 rating means a product is protected against dust and against splashing water.

    What kind of IP rating do I need for outdoor lighting?

    For outdoor lights, we recommend choosing products with a minimum IP rating of IP44. An IP44 rating confirms that a light fixture is protected against solid objects that are bigger than 1mm, and against water splashes from all directions. Anything above IP44 provides an even greater level of protection against dust and water ingress.

    Where can I use IP54-rated lights?

    IP54 light fixtures can be safely used outdoors as they’re sufficiently protected against the elements. Suitable locations include porches, patios, gardens and external walls. They can withstand splashes of water, but shouldn’t be submerged in water.
